The Moon Book by Gail Gibbons

Summary: The Moon Book, written & illustrated by Gail Gibbons. This easy to read picture book is a great way to introduce, or reteach important moon facts.  The book includes information on the moon phases, explorations, and observations.  This book is spilling with educational facts without the overwhelming boredom of most blatant educational text.

Science: The Moon Books primary focus is science.  With the use of Oreo cookies we can take the book a step further by recreating the moon phases in a hands on activity. This delicious activity is easy to do and does not require a large amount of supplies.  With four cookies, and a plate students can  split apart each cookie and replicate each of the eight moon phases.

Math: Have students calculate what their weight would be on the Moon. Is there weight greater than or less than there peers?

Writing: Write about a supernatural myth that is associated with the Moon.

Social Studies: Create a time line including the important events around the Moon.
